Freebies and a piece of my mind (rated M)

My Live Writer isn't working any more - and I hate it, seriously H.A.T.E. it. It drives me insane when Diego isn't doing what he is supposed to. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Live Writer and I still get the same error. And I even did all those fucking restarts too, and you just know how long those take. *patience is so not my strong side* I have had it with Diego and after is post (which I am actually writing in this teeny-tiny blogger posting window - arghhhh) Diego will be treated to a nice little system restore. And if that doesn't help, I'll go full dominatrix on him and format. I am not taking crap from this tiny black piece of scrap metal on my desk. Damn the next one will definitely be an Apple, even if I have to save up a year longer. I've had it with Windows, Diego may look all sleek, shiny, glossy black, but he doesn't stand a chance against Apple design. I know appearance isn't everything, but Macs have always left me drooling. Seriously, I'm so not joking. Literally drooling. I'm a design whore and Apple are at the top of their game. Besides a sleek minimal design Mac would look really sexy on my desk, next to my fabulous nickel IKEA Forsa lamp (I have loved that lamp since it first came out). Well, enough of me daydreaming. I won't have the money for a new PC in the next 2-3 years, so Diego will have to do.

Most of you, at least those of you in the States, are probably getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving today. Sadly this year, we aren't celebrating. My mom is not home and for us its just a regular work day. Its these days that it sucks to be in Germany. Don't get me wrong, I love it here, I call it home, and I have the love of my life, my son-shine, and my family at me side in Germany. But on days like these I long to be in New Orleans, LA with my family in a wooden house with a wrapped around porch, eating a monster of a turkey, and talking English all day.
And then going shopping with my mom on Black Friday. That woman turns into a ferocious tiger when she sees the word sale. She goes all fucking ninja on Black Friday. Its actually quite beautiful to watch. Sometimes I catch myself wanting to sit down with a bag of salty buttered pop corn and just watch her shop from the side lines. Well that and the fact that I have to physically assist her in those mad shopping rampages by carrying bags and acting as a human compass (my mom has the worst sense of direction), so my feet always kill me, even though I never wear heels - an only Converse kind of gal - and basically take every chance of sitting down I can get.
Now in order to get this homesick self-pitying me out of the gutter, you have to leave a comment and tell me all about your Black Friday purchase. Let me bask in your shopping madness stories. I can't wait ;-)

I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones.

Love, Angie aka IkeaGoddess

I avoid Black Friday!!!!!
I hate crowds & most people are just so greedy & pushy & ugh!!!!
The traffic is horrible!!!!! The workers are RUDE!!!!! As are the customers!!!
It's just nuts.

On a brighter note thanks for all the wonderful freebies you post!!!

Thank you for the freebies! Those are my black friday deals! LOL The last 3 years I've gone out at 4am on BF with my sis-in-law. It was all her idea and I just went along. It wasn't all that bad but we're not together this year so I won't exactly miss it! LOL I will do some online shopping and see what cyber-Monday is all about.

So your laptop's name is Diego? LOL I'm sorry you have such negative feelings and dealings with it. That's my dogs name so it can only give me the warm fuzzies. :) Keep savin' those pennies girl - you'll get your mac!!

I've been curious... how long have you been in Germany? Did you guys meet there or move there together? Do you get back to the states at all?

Enough questions! I know you're not celebrating but I'm going to say it anyway... Happy Thanksgiving Angie!!! Hugs!

I am a former PC girl. Never thought I would convert over to a mac, but now that I have, I wonder what took me so long! I should have listened to my husband years ago. :)

Hope you get your mac someday. They really are worth the extra money.

I will be avoiding the black friday sales if I can help it. I don't think I can handle the crowds, especially with my huge 8 month pregnancy belly getting in everyone's way. :)

How you posted this without Live Writer is beyond me. Kudos to you. No shopping for me tomorrow---I hate traffic, lines and crowds!

I have severe anxiety problems so going out where there is lots of people is a NoNo for me. It's so annoying. I wish I could go out and not have to worry about falling into the fetal position and crying... :( My sister is such a big shopper, She is in line right now waiting for ToysRUS to open at midnight (in 2 hours) I'll let you know how her early morning goes :)

This cracked me up...

Watching TV...Black Friday ads are fast and furious. "50" Plasma TV: $599! Netbook computer: $149! MP3 Player: $69.99" (you get the idea...tons of low-priced electronics).

Then comes on a commercial for J. C. Penney (big department store - do they have them where you are?) Anyway, they proudly announce that a 3 AM doorbuster is an $11 pair of pajamas. What??? Seriously?? I'm going to get up at 3 AM to buy some jammies?? I am ROTFLMAO.

However, those jammie-deals won't drag me out of bed tomorrow. Now if a new computer was $11, you might get my attention...

Thanks for the freebies!

Hmmmm Black Friday - oh ya, all those days I used to hit the stores and go crazy. Nope not anymore. Internet only baby - I shop at bfads.com I bought a 40" HD TV, an Olympus Stylus9000 camera (and a card for it), couple of other small things. And a stores now have a pre-Black Friday Wednesday so I went shopping at Borders yesterday and got a season of Heroes and Season 1 of True Blood for $20 each and the Vampire Academy series for my granddaughter for $13. And last week we bought a leather sofa and loveseat. And I may order an Ion IProfile turntable to record my old vinyl albums from Kohl's tonight. Internet. Life is good.

Hope that helped you out. Thanks for the freebie hunt.

BTW I never saw the "Come undone" video before, what a treat, Robbie sure is amazing (now I am drooling)LOL.

Thanks for all your effort getting these freebies for us!
We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in SA.
Black Friday doesn't sound like my kinda fun (also crowd-phobic).
Hope you get your computer probs sorted soon.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Good luck with your Diego Angie! We just got an IMac and for us it takes a bit of time to get used to, but what a difference!! If you hook up anything (printer or harddrive) you don't have to install 300 updates or anything, it just works!!
That is so much worth the extra money.. I don't need a laptop, so we bought the 27 inch Imac and it is truly supadupa for scrapping!!
And indeed it looks great too ;o) Now we have to make a good workingspace because since we moved a few months ago I've been scrapping in a closet!!!
And now the IMac stands in that closet, it deserves better!! So hopefully this weekend we kill the closet and make a nice (IKEA) working desk :o)

Sorry to hear about the Diego problems! I totally get it! My hubby slurged this year and got me a new laptop .. I almost got an Apple - my brother is an Apple freak and an IT guy, but sadly did not due to my embroidery files are all PC friendly . one day I too will have an Apple and we can drool together. I would love to have one just to play on, do my pictures and scrapbooking on. I came close since it was in my budget, but chickened out at the last minute because Daphne would not live in Apple land. SO now I have LOLA - who so far is sweet, but am still figuring Windows 7 out. :(

Black Friday is so crazy I usually don't go out so I have no crazy stories to tell _ except one on my friend/neighboir. Last year she was in JC Penny _ waiting in a long line and praying to get something ofr her hubby he really wanted yet needing to go to another section of the store for her children - she gave her money to a kind looking lady in front of her and off she went!!!! The lady had volunteered to get whatever and wait for her - {You're freaking right? So was I when I heard!} - She ran and got whatever and came back and the lady was waiting with the gift for her hubby all bought and paid for with her change!!! = Crazy & amazing I know!!!

Today I will venture to the large land of Ahoskie, NC to pick up an order my mom had placed for placemats that came in.Nothing more or less. I have painters here at our home and praying they will finish up tomorrow. Sweet men, but this is week 3!!!

OHHHHHHH, IKEA BABY! I was in Charlotte, NC earlier this week and we stopped at the IKEA Warehouse! AMAZING!!!!! Maddie loved the sitter center thay had and made some new friends. She was sad when I came to get her, but loved looking at all the cool bedrooom stuff! I had only been in a small store years ago at Tysons Corner when I still lived in DC area. I got a bunch of nich nacks and am dying to go back with a larger spending amount in my pocket!

Hope everyone's posts will find you some good ol' USA love and full fill your longing to be here.

Thanks for all the surfing and posting you do- it's amazing! I love your site!!! It has inspired me and gotten me started with digital scrapbooking so I thank you fromt the bottom of my heart for opening that door!!!

I see what you mean about missing Thanksgiving, I was born and raised German, but being online you just can´t avoid stumbling over Thanksgiving every few steps, making me jealous for another cool celebration we don´t have here. Maybe someday we´ll just adapt it, like we did with Halloween :-)

I remember when you got Diego, how long did he make it, two years? Seems like that´s the avarage life span for MSstuff, but then, we just can´t afford a stylish little apple.

And thanks for listing me again :-)))

Happy Thanksgiving!

I went Black Friday shopping once. Ugh! I'd rather pay the extra money just so I don't have to deal with the totally INSANE people that shop and work those sales. Not me, I'm internet shopping from now on.

Hi Angie,
I ventured out by myself this morning at 5am. I went to Burlington Coat Factory and then Old Navy. I grabbed a whole bunch of stuff at Old Navy, but then didn't feel like standing in line--I predicted it would be an hour. I guess I make a lousy Black Friday shopper. So I came home and ordered a scrapbook album and coat from Overstock.com. That's my kind of shopping.

I sent Mark out! He came back with a Rock Band 2 Bundle, a Wii console, a couple of games, extra remotes, and memory cards for the boys.

I was concerned we would not find the Rock Star 2 bundle but of course my knight in shining armor found one and brought it home!

Love you Angie! Happy Thanksgiving...I am thankful for you!

It's too bad you couldn't go "home" for a few weeks to celebrate Thanksgiving. Cheers to your wonderful memories.

During Black Friday, I purchased items to give away on my blog during the upcoming year. Readers can find out the details on Sunday when they visit my blog, In the meantime, I have a current give a way on my blog. To enter, you have to tell us 5 things which make you feel grateful!

Made me sad to read your post because I could feel how much you wished you were home in New Orleans. Just wanted you to know how thankful we all are for your freebie searching services. It makes a designer proud to see that the Ikea Gooddes has picked your creation to showcase in her daily posts. We all do a silent happy dance and become giddy with anticipation as our creation shows up on the screen.

I wish I had a Black Friday story to share with you but I usually avoid the crowds and this year, when we could use the savings the most, we just can't afford to shop. Being in the States in this economy, not so much fun.

Angie thanks so much for the freebies!! Your post cracked me up!!!

Actually, I spent Thanksgiving at home recovering from back surgery.
(2 weeks post-op as of yesterday.) Sounds like such fun that I know you are envious. :-) My Black Friday shopping was done via the internet. Walmart. com and Amazon. You can get some pretty good deals. Sorry you missed spending time with your family. As always, thanks for searching out the freebies.

Good thing u keep all your digi goodies on a external HD eh?

As for me, i don't have a Black Friday in NZ! [yes u have a visitor from NZ!] so it was spent working but i did rent out Harry Potter: HBP and i as crying at the end so that is what i got.

AS for your computer, its a shame u can't smack it and it would work.. have u tried saying "come on dear... work for me please dear.." i did that with Yuna, Rikku and Rinoa. [all gone now], My current girl Eve is working quite well since i brought more ram for her.

Oh yeah, u may see some freebies from me soon ^_^ im going to start designing.

Just remember, you have a little boy and a awesome husband that will love u more than dingo will ever will ^^

I'm sorry you're a little homesick this holiday. You really didn't miss much for Black Friday. Most of the stores ran then same deals online, and it was much better than the crowds. People were getting violent at our local Target over DVDs. It was bad. I just left.

Kati said...

Love Love Love Black Firday! I live in a small town so we do get the massive crowds from the other small towns....but it's some what controlled. I live off the thrill of getting all those awesome deals. I roll with a group of woman and we always plan/map everything out the night before over desserts and funny conversations. Yesterday we started at 2:45 in the morning. Yes...that's a little early for me and others...but hey...it's only once a year that I get to shop with ALL of my girlfriends and then breakfast to follow afterwards. Black Friday is something that needs to be done in a group and you and your mother are welcome anytime.
Cheers hon!

I'm having such great fun reading all of your Black Friday adventures! Such fun! Here in Thailand though it seems like everyday is Black Friday, where everything is on sale at discounted rate the whole time! LOL!

Thank you so much, Angie, for featuring my freebie. I really appreciate it. :)

Luna said...

This is why I keep coming back to your blog Angie, you are so real and love it! sorry about the trouble Diego is giving you...for previous experience know exactly how you feel and yet, still a PC girl.

Black Friday is over now but I can tell you I had lots of fun without buying anything, just watching. I hate crowds and never go shopping on Black Fridays; BUT THIS YEAR (laughing out loud)me and my husband decided to have a needed chuckle and early in the morning, about 2am (we couldn't sleep) to see all the long lines outside the stores here in Hawaii and chat with those crazy souls camping outdoors before all the madness. The economy as bad as it is won't stop people from overspending. We kept asking them "Why do you do this?" Many answered: "to save money!" But gosh! They spend on the gas to get there, the drinks and food while waiting, get upset with all the hustle and worst they charge everything on credit cards!! Ummm you still have to pay interest on them!...Where are the savings then!!?

Now during the morning, we continued our Black Friday adventure. Well, we saw this woman running with her cart towards the purses stand and swap her arm to fill the cart with all the bags she could, didn't matter the size, model or price literally pushing all others close by; then went to a corner to pick out from her outrageous collection the one she wanted!!! CRAZY!

Thanks for the freebies and to everyone who made them!

Gosh, Girl, you crack me up! You could've participated in Black Friday just fine in spite of your not-too-cooperative computer. I wouldn't dream of shopping at an actual store between now and the second week in January. Here in southern California, it's just too crowded.

Mary Elizabeth's story about her neighbor giving a stranger money to buy her husband's gift and it actually working out was one that gave me renewed faith in humanity.

I switched to PC from Macs 8 years ago because of the cost difference and because there's so much software that's only written for PCs. The Mac interface is wonderful, though.

Heck, I don't care if you keep finding us freebies (thanks, though!). I'll keep reading your blog 'cuz you're entertaining...

I live for BF

first off my grandmother and aunt along with sometimes 1 to 2 cousins (both adults) come over thursday and we get a hotel suite pile leftovers in the fridge and then sit down with the sales ads, while the kids hit the pool. We plot out who is going to what store who will have my grandmother (now 82) to watch. I'm the camper with my daughter usually at Target or sometimes BestBuy (depends who has the best comp sale stuff) for my new external or internal harddrive usually

We all have our cells a list of who wants what and the money (unless the item can be gotten at 2 different stores then only one has the money and both get the item and that way if the one with the money can not get the item there is a back up). at noon when most of the sales are over we head back to the hotel take a nap, have some leftovers and then wrap.

This actually starts Turkey Day for me shopping because Kmart has better thanksgiving Day sales then they do on BF.

My grandmother asked for 3 things this year one she bought (every year she buys herself something and says it is from my grandfather. I think she is making up for the times his gifts were small while he was alive) this year he bought her a new Flatscreen. I managed to get one of the other gifts she wanted. I was in line at Kmart first in line I might add by getting there at 1am when the store opened at 7 Thanksgiving day. I had my daughter, daughter-in-law and my mother joined after she got off work. We got my daughter-in-law the same item (a top of the line digital camera) and she is going to tease my grandmother all Christmas Eve with it.
